Berlin move-out guide
Moving out of Berlin? Here’s where to sell your furniture.
If you’re clearing a flat, do the easy stuff first. Then show the rest to more people. And decide what happens to anything left before the final day turns into a mess.

If you only remember one thing
Ask the next tenant about the furniture that already fits the flat.
Give trusted friends and communities the first look.
Use established marketplaces when you need wider local reach.
Set a clear pickup window and reduce prices as the handover gets closer.
Give away, donate or dispose of every item that remains.
Three very normal move-out situations
Sell the thing in front of you, not an imaginary “furniture category”.

The flat already has a next tenant
Start with the bed, shelves, lamps and anything that already fits. One agreement can clear half a room.

The balcony furniture needs a new home
Show it in daylight, include the dimensions and say where a car can stop. Outdoor furniture sells on pickup details as much as looks.

One good piece deserves a proper listing
Use clear photos from a few angles, show wear honestly and give people enough information to decide before they message you.
Start here, then work your way out
Ask the next tenant first — seriously
Best for: Furniture that fits the flat, a fitted kitchen, shelves, lamps and bulky items.
This is the least stressful sale you can make. Send a quick list with photos, agree what stays and what it costs, then put it in writing before the handover.
Give your people first dibs
Best for: Friends, colleagues, building chats and communities where people already trust you.
Friends and building chats are much easier when everyone can see the whole lot at once. One shareable catalogue saves you from reposting photos and answering “is this still available?” all day.
Then go where the buyers already are
Best for: Items that need more reach, especially furniture with a clear pickup location.
Kleinanzeigen and Facebook Marketplace are good when you need more local reach. Neighbourhood and expat groups can work too — just check the posting rules before you drop a link.
Make pickup stupidly easy
Best for: The final week, when certainty matters more than getting the highest possible price.
Add the dimensions, floor, lift situation and a real pickup window. Bundle the small stuff, use round prices and mark things sold quickly. Near the deadline, certainty beats squeezing out another €5.
Let useful things go for free
Best for: Good items that did not find a buyer before your deadline.
If a good chair has not sold, it can still have a next home. Berlin’s BSR has a free swap and giveaway marketplace; NochMall and local donation organisations may take usable furniture, household goods, clothes and electronics.
Book the boring final step
Best for: Broken, unsafe or genuinely unusable furniture and household items.
For broken or unsafe items, use a BSR recycling centre, Kieztag or a booked bulky-waste collection. Leaving a sofa on the pavement and hoping for magic is not a plan.
Pick the tool for the annoying bit
Kleinanzeigen, Garage Sale or something else?
There is no magic answer for every chair, grill or shelf. Pick the place that solves your biggest headache: finding people, getting the listings done, arranging pickup or simply getting finished on time.
If listing is the blocker
Take the photos first. Deal with the words later.
Garage Sale turns a batch of photos into draft item names, descriptions and suggested prices. You review the catalogue before it goes live. It is free to list, but it is still early — share your catalogue in the places where your buyers already are.
